Street food is an essential part of our culture as Indians. Convenient, varied, and delicious, they offer us much-needed spice in our regular lives. But often, street food vendors suffer majorly. Their socio-economic and financial conditions are poor, making it difficult for them to make ends meet. It is thus an urgent need to skill them to ensure better livelihoods. This will not only help them prosper but impart great skills to improve the hygienic condition of the food prepared and aesthetics of vending.
The East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC) is seeking applications for 300+ E-Cart applicants as per their proposed master plan, to link the issue of licenses with skill development. This will give them training on hygiene, safety, customer centricity, digital transactions, and entrepreneurship.
The purpose of training is to improve those skills which would lead to better services to consumers, more opportunities to the vendors in revenue and awareness of regulations, and adherence to stipulated rules and better services for the local bodies. Thus, this program will look at, firstly, recognising the existing skills of the vendors through formal qualification, referred as assessment and certification, and secondly, provide value addition knowledge or skills, referred as bridge, to increase productivity and enhance livelihood pathways.
The program is envisioned to have dual Certification under PMKVY Scheme as well as FoSTaC (FSSAI). Learnet Skills will upskill 1500 Street Food Vendors associated with East Delhi Municipal Corporation.
